My Small Business Story

My why….

What started as a fun weekend idea quickly turned into a journey of discovery. In early summer 2023, I enrolled in an online soap-making course, thinking it would be an enjoyable class with no expectations beyond a few experimental batches. My first attempts went surprisingly well, but the learning curve felt overwhelming. I put soap-making on hold for a bit, unsure how to tackle all the unanswered questions swirling in my mind.

When winter rolled around, I picked it up again as a way to brighten the gloomy, rainy days of the PNW. That’s when everything started to click. I dove into the science of soap-making and began to understand things like what superfat means, ideal water ratios, and even how to master a soap calculator. I faced challenges—like accelerating fragrance oils—but with each batch, I learned something new.

Over time, I developed a recipe I was proud of—one that struck the perfect balance of qualities I want in a bar of soap. From there, I refined my process: controlling soda ash, working with natural colorants, blending essential oils, figuring out the ideal temperature for my recipes, and discovering what additives like clays, colloidal oats, tussah silk, and exfoliants can bring to the soap’s quality. The science and creativity of soap-making completely drew me in, and before I knew it, this hobby had become a passion.

Sharing my soaps felt like a natural next step. I love creating them too much to stop, and I’m thrilled to offer them for sale. My future plans include building a dedicated soap shop on our new property in Virginia and connecting with the community through local markets and craft fairs.

This journey has been so fulfilling, and I’m excited to keep growing, learning, and sharing my creations with others.
